Does one photo really contain your home address?
Photos taken with location services on record the GPS coordinates in metadata called EXIF. The problem: those coordinates usually pin your home or workplace. When that data travels with a marketplace item photo or a daily snapshot on social media, a stranger can look up exactly where it was taken on a map. Location-based stalking and crime are reported regularly.
How to use
- Load a JPG photo — it instantly shows hidden GPS, camera and timestamp data.
- If GPS is present, a map link lets you see exactly where.
- Tap "Remove metadata & save" to get a clean photo with all of it stripped.
Safe upload in 3 steps
- Hide: mask faces and plates with the Photo Mosaic.
- Strip location: remove GPS and camera data here.
- Shrink: finish with the Image Resizer.
FAQ
Q. Doesn't posting to social media strip it automatically?
Some platforms (like Instagram) strip EXIF on upload, but messengers, email, forums and marketplace apps that send the original file can carry the location along. Removing it yourself is safest.
Q. Are photos uploaded?
No — both analysis and removal run in your browser.
